Akshay Kumar, woos Ladies' Only Audience at London Screening of Thank You

Akshay Kumar, wowed and wooed the ladies of London on Saturday 9th April, at an exclusive Ladies Only Screening of his latest film, 'Thank You', at Cineworld Feltham, followed by an energetic and lively Q&A with the charming screen icon. To celebrate the film's theatrical release the day before, the leading man of Indian cinema flew into London especially, to engage in an interaction with some of his female fans, who turned out in their masses for the exclusive event, rendering the lively auditorium a 'house full'.

The audience was delighted and entertained by the romantic comedy, and to make their evening even more special and one to be cherished for life, Akshay Kumar stepped onto the stage following the screening, to discuss marriage, relationships and fidelity in his on-screen avatar from the film, 'Kishan', with the ladies in the audience.

Produced by UTV Motion Pictures and Hari Om Entertainment Company, 'Thank You' is a film that lifts the lid on extramarital affairs. Filmed in Canada, maestro of comedy Akshay Kumar is at the helm of a powerhouse of screen talent that includes fellow stars Sonam Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Irrfan Khan, Suneil Shetty, Celina Jaitley and Rimi Sen in a battle of the sexes which transforms matrimony to acrimony. After the staggering Box Office success of 'Singh is Kinng' and the earlier 'Welcome', the superstar Akshay Kumar has teamed up once more with much-loved comedy director Anees Bazmee.

Akshay Kumar runs for Canadians

Toronto, Dec 18 – Bollywood star Akshay Kumar announced here Thursday that he would make a cross-cultural film on Canada with ice hockey as the theme even as he ran in bone-chilling temperature for the Winter Olympic torch relay. .
“I love ice hockey, and I am in the processing making this film. I will start work on it next year,” the “Singh is Kingg” hero said here while participating the torch relay race for the 2010 Winter Olympics to be held in Vancouver.
But he could not complete the 300-metre torch run as protesters opposing the staging of the Olympics blocked the race.
Since ice hockey is very popular among all Canadians, Akshay said he wants to show how this game has bridged cultural differences between different people.
Hinting that he might also make a Punjabi film, he said,”I am Punjabi and I love the language. I have just done a small role in a Punjabi film, and I won’t rule out any film in the future.”
Akshay, who owns a house and has permanent residence status here, said Canada is “like a second home to me. I love Canada. Though the weather here is cold, people are very warm.”
He said his connection with Canada has deepened over the years since he came here first in 1995.
“Seven-eight of my films have been shot in Toronto and Vancouver, and six of them have done very well. So I have special connections with this country,” he said.
He also recalled the help extended by Canadians when his father was brought to Toronto for medical treatment some time ago.
Thanking Canada for inviting him to run with the Olympic torch, he said, “It is a dream come true.
“I am honoured and privileged to have been selected as an official torchbearer for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic torch relay. I would like to thank Canadians for this honour and recognition,” he said.
He said he was also happy about Toronto hosting the ‘Bollywood Oscars’ in 2012. “I am very happy that the event is coming to Toronto. It will be a great honour for Canada.”
However, he was not very happy about his films his year, saying that “this year three to four films (of mine) didn’t do that well.”
Later in the evening he ran with the Olympic torch on the famous Yonge Street in the heart of Toronto in bone-chilling winter. Even the minus eight-degree temperature failed to deter people as thousands lined up both sides of the street to have a glimpse of the star.
However, Akshay could not finish his 300-metre run as protesters blocked the street to highlight the treatment of Native Indians by the Canadian government.
Hundreds of policemen intervened to remove the agitators who kept shouting slogans against the holding of the Olympics on lands taken away from the original natives of Canada.
Akshay was one of the international torch-bearers selected by the Olympic organizing committee.

Akshay threatens to leave hotel for IPL

Akshay Kumar is a cricket enthusiast, and with no Set Max in his hotel room in Singapore, where he is shooting for Dan Dana Dan, Akki threatened to leave the hotel, if he couldn’t get to see IPL matches.
Producer, Ratan Jain says, “When Akshay came here last week, he asked me if we are watching the matches. When I told him that it was getting very difficult to catch-up with IPL matches because the hotel did not have that channel, he spoke to the owner and told him that if he didn’t get the matches, he won’t stay in the hotel. Within minutes the channel started beaming in the hotel.”
Jain adds, “I guess, apart from us Indians, no one was interested in the IPL. The hotel also must have paid a huge amount to subscribe to the channel; but Akshay is happy and now the entire unit can watch the matches together during breaks.”

Kylie Minogue to Act in Most Expensive Bollywood Action Movie Ever

Australian pop star Kylie till now has been shot in two dance sequences for the ever expensive Bollywood action movie Blue. She is acting along with action star of Bollywood Akshay Kumar in the movie. One of the two songs one is title song that is composed by Slumdog Millionaire fame oscar award winner AR Rahman. However she is not as prominent to the cast of the movie as she is appearing in song sequences and one or two action scenes. Blue is an underwater thriller movie and is under shooting at exotic locations like Bahamas and Bangkok.

Akshay Kumar teams up with rap star Bohemia for 8x10 Tasveer

Mumbai: Akshay Kumar, it seems, has taken a fancy for international singers of late.

US-based desi hip-hop and rap star Bohemia for a song and music video for Akshay Kumar's forthcoming film 8X10 Tasveer.
After Chandni Chowk To China, the actor has again teamed up with US-based desi hip-hop and rap star Bohemia for a song and music video for his forthcoming Percept Picture Company's 8X10 Tasveer.
Apart from this Akshay had earlier teamed up with Snoop Dogg in Singh is Kinng andKylie Minogue in the forthcoming Blue.
"The music video encapsulates the personality of the film. The intrigue and thrill elements form an integral part of the video. Bohemia is a very popular rap artist and we are very happy that he has given his music for our film," Navin Shah, CEO of Percept Picture Company, said.
A source says, "Bohemia has lent his voice for the title song of 8X10 Tasveer. The camera work is exceptional. But it is Akshay Kumar who is the eye candy in the video from minute one. It's an addictive track."
8X10 Tasveer is directed by Nagesh Kukunoor and slated for April 3 release.
Akshay plays the character of a man of Indian origin who becomes a forest ranger in Canada. It also stars Ayesha Takia (who recently got married to hotelier Farhan Azmi), Vinod Khanna and Sharmila Tagore.
8X10 Tasveer is a story about young man Jai Puri, played by Akshay Kumar, who possesses supernatural powers. Jai is of Indian origin who works as a environment protection services officer in Canada, Kukunoor added.
He is known to be a daredevil by his co-workers. He is a sole heir to his father's multi-million dollar company, but is estranged from his father as they don't agree on the way the business is conducted.
His life is shattered by a loss of a very important person in his life. This personal tragedy leads him to use his unique supernatural power to unravel the mystery behind the murder. 8x10 Tasveer is supernatural thriller with a nail biting finish to come up with startling answers.

Ash-Akshay in 'Benjamin Butler' Replay

The actor will go through a reverse ageing process in his next flick.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button which sank without a trace, but you can expect the romantic Akshay-Ash starrer Action Replay to be a hit at the box office. To start with, the film is one of Bollywood’s best kept secrets this year, especially because it brings Akki and Ash together again after their sensational pairing in Khakhi. Then, just as Brad Pitt does in Benjamin Button, Akshay goes through a reverse ageing process in Action Replay. The films starts with him at the age of 62 and goes on to show him becoming 26. From being a father, Akshay grows to be a fashionable young dude of the swinging 70s with bell bottoms and wide belts. The script of Action Replay was ready before Brad Pitt’s film released. The cinema world’s best make-up specialists, led by Paul Pattison (Braveheart and Mission Impossible 2), are being used to give shape to this ambitious film. Film-maker Vipul Shah begins shooting this month and is expected to release Action Replay around November or December when Shah Rukh Khan’s My Name is Khan and Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots are slated to hit the screens. “What we are attempting is very ambitious and it hasn’t happened in Indian cinema before,” Vipul told BT. “The film is an out-and-out romantic comedy but reversing time is the challenging element. We’re putting in a lot of effort to pull off this one. We have to keep improvising on our content and technical abilities all the time.”

The ongoing animosity between Sanjay Dutt-Akshay Kumar has further intensified because of pop sensation Kylie Minogue. Kylie is in India to shoot her portions in the Akshay-Sanjay starrer, Blue. The acrimony between the two actors has magnified and it’s because Akshay’s playing the gracious (and self-appointed?) host to Kylie.Sanjay’s family and friends argue that along with Akshay, Sanju too is one of the leading men of Blue. A source close to Sanjay puts it succinctly, “Why is Akshay acting as Kylie’s lone host?” While Sanjay shrugs and laughs off the attention showered on the pretty Australian guest by her ‘unofficial host’, people close to Sanju are far from amused by Akshay’s attempt at self-promotion.In fact, the resentment in the Sanjay camp to Akshay’s monopoly act is so high that well-wishers have now persuaded Sanju to host a grand bash for Kylie.Confirming these developments, Dharam Oberoi, CEO Sanjay Dutt Films, says, “Yes, Sanjay is planning to throw a bash for Kylie. But, if you measure the length of the roles, then Sanjay has more footage than Akshay in Blue,” says D’Souza.Need we say more?

Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif 4th film

Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif have been signed on by Venus Films for their forthcoming venture De Dana Dhan after three hits together in Namastey London, Welcome and Singh Is Kinng. The film will also star Suneil Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Neha Dhupia and Sameera Reddy. The film will be directed by Priyadarshan and will be shot in Singapore.
The frequent pairing and good onscreen chemistry between Akshay and Katrina has worked wonders at the box office. Yet rumours were rife that the hot couple would not be seen together on screen again. However to put rumours to rest, Akshay and Katrina have already signed producer-director Vipul Shah’s London Dreams.
During the music launch of Singh Is Kinng, Akshay was asked about his onscreen chemistry with Katrina. He said, “We have given so many hits together, so why shouldn’t we work together again?” Katrina added, “We share a bond. Akshay’s been a great friend. He has been there from when I didn’t know Hindi, did not know how to dance, where the lights and camera were supposed to be or what I was meant to do. Every newcomer should work with him as he helps out in every shot. He lends support and gives confidence. He’s a senior artiste and you respect a senior artiste.

What caught our eye on the sets of Hello India was Akshay Kumar with a guy bearing an uncanny resemblance to him. What was Akshay doing with a body double, when he is known to not use one for his action scenes? Producer-director Shabnam Kapoor said, "Although Akshay loves doing all his scenes, we used the lookalike for his crowd scenes."Incidentally, Akshay has a track record of finishing all his incomplete films (Meri Biwi Ka Jawab Nahin and Police Force are two) years after the films went on floors. Hello India is a similar film which was launched as Purab Ki Laila Paschim Ka Chaila ten years ago and was supposed to mark the debut of Namrata Shirodkar, who has already bid goodbye to the industry.

Akshay Kumar is in a charitable mood. When Akshay learnt that two of his closest friends, actor Manoj Joshi and producer Rakesh Upadhyay were organising a show of Manoj’s play Chanakya for the family of late constable Tukaram Ombale, the actor promptly sent a cheque of Rs 5 lakh for Ombale’s family. That’s not all. Akshay has also taken the responsibility of educating Ombale’s younger daughters Vaishali and Bharti. Ombale lost his life while trying to nab terrorist Ajmal Qasab on the night of 26/11. Although Akshay did not attend the play as he was busy, he made it a point to send his sister Alka to attend the show. Alka met Tukaram’s daughter Vaishali and gave her the cheque.
Akshay KumarWe tried to get in touch with one of Ombale’s elder daughters, Vandana whose husband Rajendra said, “Yes, Akshayji has given us a cheque of Rs 5 lakh. His sister Alka gave us the cheque. It was very kind of him. Akshayji has also offered financial assistance for Vaishali’s as well as Bharti’s education. Vaishali is doing her B.Ed while Bharti is a final year B.Com student. Thankfully, we are now capable of taking care of the education expense of Vaishali and Bharti as both are in the final year but if they want to study further, we will think about it.”And have they spoken to Akshay after receiving the cheque? “Unfortunately we have not been able to speak to Akshayji as he has been very busy lately,” said Rajendra. Manoj Joshi said, “Although Tukaram only had a lathi to fight the terrorist, he did not care for his life even though he knew that Qasab had deadly weapons. Tukaram’s bravery should not go unnoticed. Akshay has done what few people would do. I have newfound respect for him.”

We thought we were making a blockbuster

Down but not out’ could have been coined for Nikhil Advani. He comes to terms with CC2C, defends it and lists his mistakes

Though he’s sprawled out in his office, the picture of ‘cool’, emotions seethe within Nikhil Advani when he speaks about his completely detested and disdained Chandni Chowk to China. Tell him the film is being called the worst Bollywood film ever and he retorts that he has been in cinema houses and while some may have had the same opinion as us; there are plenty who have been laughing uproariously. His sense of humour reiterates itself when he says he doesn’t know if they were laughing at the film or with it.He’s curious about why he was expected to make a masterpiece when he had clearly said he was making a mindless entertainer. Point out that with his first film Kal Ho Naa Ho he set a benchmark that has consistently fallen with Salaam-e-Ishq and now CC2C and we are now trying to figure out who he is and he nods figuratively. He is too. “ I don’t know what a film by me is supposed to be. I want to make films which people connect emotionally with whether that emotion is laughter, tears, horror, anger or romance. It might take me forever to find myself or I might never do so.”What he does admit though is the mistake of having excessive toilet humour in a film aimed at children. “I wanted to cater to both children and the front benchers but that obviously didn’t work,” he says wryly. “But also the use of toilet humour was justified by the character that Akshay plays. He was a cook from Chandni Chowk, a guy from the street. If he’s hit on the nuts he’s going to say so loud and clear. How could I sanitise that?”“Right at the outset I had told Akshay that if any critic gave this film more than two stars, we would have to check if the reviewer was in his right mind. That’s how brainless, and illogical it was supposed to be.”Nikhil pooh poohs the reports that Akshay Kumar has decided to cut down the comedy quotient in his newer films following the debacle of CC2C. “I have been meeting Akshay everyday and he hasn’t said anything like that to me, in fact my next film with him is a comedy too. But like the rest of us he is confused. We all thought we were making a blockbuster, a sure-shot hit.” Some lessons have been learnt. “The most important thing is to take time; on the script, on the process, and to show the film to as many people as possible. I have made the mistake of not doing so with all my films. If I had shown CC2C around I would have known what the audience wanted, maybe someone would have told me what you are saying today about toilet humour. I need to connect with myself and the people I am making films for.”

BT put him on the mat and got him to deliver straight replies to some more punches... With this flop, it’s being said your golden spell is over... But my so-called flop has generated Rs 45 crore in the first weekend... it’s the fourth highest, three-day box office collection in the history of Bollywood. Besides, I never said this was the greatest film ever made. I told everyone, ‘It’s a senseless film, leave your brains at home.’ I accept it for what it is, I love it for what it is, and I will stand by it and say that’s the film we wanted to make and we made. I pray you like it, and I’m sorry if you don’t. But I didn’t break my back doing it to have my own fraternity later stab me from behind... But you’re hugely successful, you had the opportunity to choose ... did you make the right choice? I accept failure, no problem; failing isn’t the scary part, reading newpapers is what brings me out in a cold sweat! Mistakes I can live with, but regret is one thing I can do without. I did my best, I’m not Superman, if I never fall how will I pick myself up to climb again! Shekhar Suman says you ought to apologise for CC2C... Bollywood is a family, if you have a problem come to my house and discuss it with me over tea, don’t poison the minds of our public. Have you ever heard me hurt anyone? But Shekar Suman’s not the only one. His son’s film releases tomorrow and I wish him the very best. I hope no one ever talks about Shekhar’s son the same way he spoke about me. Where does CC2C leave you? Thank God I’m not considered number one or anything of the sort. I’m happy being the underdog that has to struggle. It’s what I’m used to doing and it’s where I’m happiest. I can get on with being the dude who just wants to make films. Wish me luck ... What is the road ahead like? Bumpy, full of pot-holes, but I’ll reach my destination ... I work hard, I do good things with my money, and all I want to do at the end of the day is go home and play with my innocent son. No film, no money and no amount of success is more precious than that. I’m lucky, every month my son’s dying to see another one of my films! People say you’ve lost your trademark modesty with success... No one can ever take away my modesty. I haven’t changed since the day I started, in fact I’m even more mellow now than I used to be. People are dying to pull me down. I understand why. But I won’t become too big for my boots. Have I ever thrown my weight around or abused my position in the industry? Why do you think after all the flops I am still here! You gave away your Best Actor award in the Popular category to Aamir Khan. People claim that magnanimity was not the reason behind your grand gesture... Of course they will, you only hear crap about me around release time; they did it to me before Singh Is Kinng and are doing it again now. I gave my award to Aamir because I felt he deserved it. Just because he doesn’t turn up for awards doesn’t mean I can pretend it doesn’t belong to him. I was honoured to be given the award and, to be honest, it took a lot for me to give it away. Aamir knows why I did what I did, he understands me, why can’t people? Everybody’s not corrupt

It seems Mr. Perfect Aamir Khan and the current flavour of the season, Akshay Kumar, are in cahoots with each other to dislodge Shah Rukh Khan from the pinnacle of super stardom.

Apparently, the plan to topple SRK from his number one position has been brewing for quite sometime.

It’s clear that both the actors do not think that they are competition for each other given the choice of films they doing.

And when at a recently concluded award ceremony Akshay refused to accept ‘The Most Popular Actor’ award saying that if anyone deserved this award it was Aamir most people saw it as an indication to Aamir that their ploy was succeeding.

Elaborating on the super scheme, our source said, “Shah Rukh Khan has been leading the ratings for many years now, but of late Akshay has been biting at his heels.

Akshay has managed to give consistent hits and many have already proclaimed him as the next superstar. Aamir has also realised that it is now or never for him. Aamir has never been part of the rat race, however now, after Taare Zameen Par and Ghajini he wants to assert his supremacy. Aamir does not see Akshay as his rival as the two are completely different and the kind of films they do are also different. Evidently they had dinner some days ago to discuss their strategy against SRK.”Our source added, “To their credit, they have been successful to a large extent, and the result had been the dismal opening of SRK’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi despite the YRF clout behind it. On the other hand, Aamir’s Ghajini was very well received. Akshay too had a spate of successful films. Although the reports of Chandni Chowk to China are far from encouraging, Akshay has managed to get the maximum limelight and publicity from the film.”

We wonder if Shah Rukh Khan is aware of the sinister scheme against him. And if he is, what his next move will be. He is no greenhorn and despite his affability can be as wily as anyone else.

From an action movie star to being seen as someone who has made commercial Indian movies popular in the West... how does it feel?

Oh, you know, the usual – I get up at the same time, brush my teeth, then I remember, ‘Oh my God, people think I am more than what I am.’ It’s, well, scary, but it’s a part of doing what I do, and if one does something well, they have to suffer the pressure of higher expectations... It is great, though, but living up to people’s expectations is hard. I just want to entertain, but so much else comes with the package.

Which of your movies do you think was the turning point of your career?

Without a shadow of a doubt, it was Khiladi. That’s what made me, and I know that ‘name’ is what took me into the future. I could easily have been left behind, but those films carried me forward to this day.

How was the experience of working with Gordon Liu, Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richards, Snoop Dogg and other international artistes?

They are a credit to not only their profession, but to their country and their industry. The people I have had the pleasure of working with, have been incredibly hardworking, respectful, dedicated and very humble. They inspire me, they make me want to learn more, try harder, achieve more. I’m lucky to have worked with them, because I know that there are some difficult people out there, but as usual, God has blessed me very kindly.

What is your take on foreign collaborations in Indian cinema?

I think it’s wonderful, and why not? We all have the same passion in life and that’s to create great cinema. If it needs us to all join hands, then brilliant, we all live in the same world, why not come together?

You have seen international audiences react to our movies, up close and personal. What is it about Indian cinema that appeals to them?

If you hadn’t noticed, Indians are everywhere. There are towns all over the world that are comprised of only Indians. We spread our love and passion to our western neighbours, we’re not exactly quiet about our passions, are we? And in my experience, everyone wants to experience what they don’t have, what they don’t know. That’s why so many foreigners come to India – we are fascinating to them and I don’t blame them... my country still fascinates me!

You have over 80 movies to your credit... How has the industry changed, for better or for worse, over the time you’ve been here?

Over a 100 movies, by the way... The industry’s changed immensely. I had to wear the same pair of jeans for my first couple of films ’coz we couldn’t afford designers! So much has changed and obviously for the better. But even if it hadn’t, I’d still be here trying to make it better.

Do our movies have the same Box Office success rate abroad as they do in India?

I wouldn’t think as yet. Anyway, there are over a billion people in India – that’s a lot of people to visit cinemas in one country! But I’d have to say that the majority of NRIs are Bollywood fanatics, and it’s wonderful to see that. I’ve had a huge success rate at the overseas Box Office, so I would say we are getting appreciation from all over the world.

You have also recently signed Deepa Mehta’s Komagata Maru. This movie required an Indian actor with a permanent resident status in Canada. How long have you had the permanent resident status, and will you be playing the role of a Sikh lawyer in the movie?

Sorry mates, it’s too early into the project to be discussing anything about the movie, I’m afraid, but I have had my residency for a few years now. Toronto is another of my favourite homes away from home.

Anything about your co-actors in CC2C – Mithun Chakraborty and Deepika Padukone?

Oh, the wonderful Mithunda – he was the perfect man for this role. His strength is still unbelievable to me. And Deepika did especially well in this movie, and we are all proud of her. With her drive, that lady will go far. Is there any particular movie genre that you still haven’t done and would like to do? Not that I know of... I mean, I’ve never made a horror movie, but that takes an incredible storyline. I suppose I could consider that, but mostly I think I’ve tried my hand at pretty much everything. But I’ll show you more, just wait and watch...

You have your son’s name tattooed on your back. What does Aarav bring to your life?

He made me see the true meaning of life. He made me think, ‘What the hell was I doing in life before he came along?’ Really, that’s what he does to me. It’s amazing how someone so small and tiny, can change a man as big as me – and I’m talking about my height, by the way, not my stature!

In 2008, you were tagged the sexiest man alive. Your comments.

The judges must have been blind or on drugs, I don’t know... I’m honoured, don’t get me wrong. I’m just trying not to blush in this interview, that’s all.

Warner Bros Pictures plan sequel to Chandni Chowk To China

Even before it has hit theaters, Warner Bros Pictures are planning a sequel to their first Bollywood film, the Akshay Kumar-starrer Chandni Chowk To China, which premiered in London on Monday.
"Warner Bros want to make a sequel to the film" enthused by the response it has generated, its director Nikhil Advani said, describing the US-based Warner Bros Pictures' first Bollywood production as an "illogical, mad film". "We have signed a three film deal with Warner Bros," Advani told PTI in London.
The film, produced in about 100 days at an estimated cost of $9 million, would be released in 80 theaters globally on January 16."According to the bookings, we have got the biggest opening and it will touch the figure reached by Aamir Khan's Gajini," he said.
The film, also starring Bollywood's latest heartthrob Deepika Padukone, chronicles the lunatic adventures of a hapless simpleton cook from Delhi who is mistaken for the reincarnation of an ancient Chinese warrior. As he goes to seek his destiny, he finds himself thrown into a crazy world of megalomaniac villains, femme fatales, crazy inventors, Chinese mysticism and outlandish kung-fu assassins.Akshay Kumar, who plays the lead role told PTI, "It is an easy going film."
"In these days of recession and stress, people can enjoy this film. My son told me, Dad you look like a cartoon character in this film and my grandmother told me that I look like Bhorrat, the famous comic character," Akshay Kumar said.

Also, shooting at the Wall of China in extreme cold was difficult...” But the toughest thing, says Akshay, was lifting Deepika Padukone with one arm! Now who thought this feather-light damsel would pose to be such a problem. If only she stopped throwing her weight around... only literally speaking, of course!
