The actor, prime witness in the accident involving an 83-year-old man and a 15-year-old driving illegally, records his statement with Khar police
Khar police has named actor Aamir Khan as prime witness in an accident case where an 83-year-old man was knocked down by an underage driver at Linking Road, and later succumbed to his injuries.
On January 3, the 15-year-old son of a carpenter stole his father's bike for an early morning joyride and ended up causing the death of senior citizen Moti Jhangiani who was walking to a temple.
Aamir Khan who happened to be passing by saw the accident and sent his staff to assist the victim who later died. The star has now agreed to testify in the case.
Four days ago Aamir, back in town on a break from shooting his latest film in Bangalore, recorded his statement with the police, and has promised to testify in the trial. His bodyguard and two other people who were in the car with him on the day of the accident, too have given their statement.
The boy was charged under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code for rash and negligent driving. He was arrested and then released on bail by court, and his father was fined Rs 2,500 for allowing his minor son to drive under the Motor Vehicles Act.
DCP Zone IX Niket Kaushik told this newspaper, "We have recorded the statement of Aamir Khan and three other people associated with him as they are the only witnesses in the case.""We had intimated him that we needed to record his statement as a witness in the case.
Aamir Khan was very co-operative and called others too to his residence for recording of the statement," said an officer from Khar police station. "He is the prime witness in the case and has agreed to co-operate fully when the trial starts."
